Women's History Month
A resource guide celebrating the incredible achievements and contributions of women throughout history, shaping the world we live in today.
By Michele Marotta
Dear Spark Community,
March is Women's History Month – an important time to reflect on the remarkable contributions and achievements of courageous trailblazers who have paved the way toward gender equity in the United States. This month provides us with an opportunity to honor the strength, resilience, and vision of the women who have shaped our history, as well as those who continue to drive progress today.
We have curated a list of resources, events, and activities that highlight the meaningful accomplishments of women from diverse fields. We hope these offer inspiration to participate in a way that resonates with you.
With gratitude and care ~ The Spark Kindness Team
About Women's History Month
The celebration of Women’s History (Week) in America began in 1978 in Sonoma California with the Sonoma County Commission on Women in alignment with International Women’s Day (March 8). Soon after, five women inspired by the county’s efforts, founded National Women’s History Project (NWHP) to bring women’s history into the mainstream and expand Women’s History Week across America. In 1987, after much lobbying, Congress passed a law designating March as Women’s History Month.
The National Women’s History Alliance usually designates a theme for Women’s History month. In 2024 the theme was Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. This year, the 2025 theme is Moving Forward Together: Women Educating and Inspiring Generations.
